This story told by Emele Mamuli is presented in Tanema, together with a translation in Teanu [“tkw”], the now dominant language of Vanikoro. The myth tells of a female heron who married a man. While they lived together for some time, he became unkind with her – so she threw herself in a fire, and went away in smoke.
