Bomu

Boomu[1] (or Bomu) is a dialectal variant of Bwamu spoken mainly in Mali. Bwamu is a Gur language, described by Gabriel Manessy (1961) who mainly studied another dialectal variant (in Burkina Faso). In Boomu, two sub-variants can be distinguished: Dahanmu (known as the "Mandiakuy dialect") and Dwemu (known as the "Togo dialect", spoken more in the north of the region[2]).

Tales:

The tales presented here are in Dahanmu, but some storytellers use lexicon or sometimes formulations specific to Dwemu. The tales also contain Bambara (Bamanankan) terms, the majority language in Mali.

The Boomu language has a rich mimeographed dictionary (Boomu-French) developed between 1979 and 1994 by Bernard de Rasilly (a missionary of Africa-White Father who was stationed in the region for more than forty years). A simpler lexicon, developed from SIL's "Lexique Pro" software, was published from this dictionary in 2016 by Maarten Bloemarts (also a missionary of Africa-White Father) and Pakone François Keïta (retired teacher).
